Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley is simply the most spectauclar and well-known archeological site in the Western Hemisphere. It is still not clear why Machu Picchu was created, and this adds even more to the mystery given by the top of the mountain setting and the eternal mists that swirl around. Because of the abundance of ornamental works and the high quality stonework, it is clear that it was important for the Incas. It is now accessable from Cuzco on a regular basis and, in spite of the many visitors, is awe inspiring.
