The forests, mountains, plains and history of France and Switzerland are calling! Depart Seattle for overnight flight to Paris.

Sunday,
Following our morning arrival we transfer to our hotel. There is time to walk our neighborhood and soak up the delightful atmosphere. Welcome dinner. Overnight, Paris

Monday,
Our tour starts with an excellent overview of French forestry, given by representatives of the Private Forestry Association, and the Federation of Woodland Owners. We depart immediately for a visit to the famous Fontainbleau forest where a French Forest Office official explains their reforestation process. The evening is free to enjoy the unlimited delights of Paris. Overnight, Paris

Tuesday,
Our travel to Strasbourg takes us through beautiful rolling farm and forest land. Strasbourg’s old historic district, la “Petite France”, and a river cruise endears us to this unique city. In the evening we enjoy an Alsacian dinner at the winery, with music and wine sampling. Overnight, Strasbourg

Wednesday,
The director of the Private Woodland Owners Cooperative tells us about their prescribed forest management practices. Later, we talk with the owners as we walk through their woodlands. Finally, Europe’s largest sawmill opens its door to us for a comprehensive tour. Overnight, Strausbourg

Thursday,
Today we depart to Switzerland and meet with Jura Hills forest owners. Visits to local woodlands are included as we learn about forest management and challenges. In the evening we enjoy a special dinner in Berne’s city center. Overnight, Berne

Friday,
During our visit to Berne’s famous forestry school we see unique uses of wood in school structures. Our tour of Canton Berne takes us through picture postcard valley and hillside forests. We also meet with administrators of the semi-public Forest Enterprise and learn about this unique private-public forestry system. In the afternoon, we visit a wine cellar and tour Berne’s old town. Forestry France and Switzerland

Saturday,
Berne’s lively farmer’s market charms us as we sample fresh produce and visit with the local folks. Our scenic drive to Chambery in France takes us through unforgettable villages such as Vevey, Montreux, Martigny and Forclaz. Back in France we meet with the Chamber of Agriculture, and meet private woodland owners. We cap off the day with a reelaxing walk in the woods. Overnight, Chambery

Sunday,
Annecy is full of artistic and architectural traditions with buildings dating back to the 12th century. Our guided tour of Annecy features all the best of this “Little Venice”. The afternoon is free to enjoy Annecy on your own. Overnight, Chambery.

Monday,
We depart to St Etienne and meet with the director of a timber marketing chain. Here we learn about efforts to promote the use of high quality woods. Our visits include local woodlands and demonstration construction projects. We continue to Lyon and upon arrival, have a comprehensive city tour. Overnight, Lyon

Tuesday,
Our travel to Paris takes us through some of the most visited parts of France. We arrive in time for a comprehensive city tour. Then there is free time to enjoy the museums, art galleries, parks, plazas and other paris delights. In the evening, we savor a farewell dinner overlooking sparkling Paris from the Eiffel Tower. Overnight, Paris

Wednesday,
Following breakfast we travel to Charles DeGaulle airport and check-in for flights home.
