Day 6: St-Jean lake
Early breakfast at 7h00 and departure at 7h45 for the meeting at the Cooperative Laterriere, a forest coop of private owner producers.
AM: visit of the main facilities of the forestry cooperative of Laterrière, This very large coop of local forest producers does harvesting (they have their own machinery) and owns and operates a sawmill, and a nursery including that we will visit this morning. Visit of an harvesting site in operation. Lunch and visit of a local forestry machinery dealer in Latteriere. Free time in Jonquière or Chicoutimi at the end of the afternoon and return at Cepal for evening and dinner.
Day 7: St Jean Lake / Montréal
Road to to La Tuque along the St-Maurice river valley road. 12h30 stop for the lunch at the Auberge des Montagnars Inn / Club Hosanna , a small auberge and a renown outfitter. You will meet Mr Michel Beland and after the lunch he will present the relation between the outfitter and the forest producers. Mr Béland is a member of the Provincial Outfitter association. Road to Montréal in the afternoon the arrival in Montréal, view of Montréal from the Olympic tower. Installation at the hotel and dinner in a typical restaurant called La cage aux Sports.
Day 8: Montréal
AM : city tour and visit of the biôdome, the living Museum of nature. Noon: Lunch. Free time for leisure in the afternoon. Dinner at 7:30PM.
Day 9: Montréal / Ottawa
AM : road to Ottawa by the panoramic Ottawa river road with, en route. 10:00AM: visit of a wood producer (with machinery operation in his woodlot) member of Société sylvicole de l'Outaouais (Silvicultural society of Outaouais area). Lunch at 1:15PM in Gatineau and city tour of Ottawa.
Day 10: Ottawa / Niagara Falls
Early departure at 8h00 After the breakfast. 10AM:Visit of Eastern Ontario Model Forest. A representative of the Ontario woodlot producers association will also be there.
The meeting point will be: forest in Southern Ontario eighty-eight percent of the EOMF region is privately owned. Addressing forest management issues requires keeping a large population informed. A network of demonstration areas is now under development to provide "living classrooms", where woodlot owners and communities can learn more about how to implement sustainable forest management practices. The EOMF is an alliance of private individuals, First Nations peoples, businesses, non-governmental agencies, working together to sustain and improve the economic, social and cultural value of the forests of eastern Ontario. A network for everyone with a stake in the forests of eastern Ontario to exchange information, develop new science and technology, create public awareness and to shape a sustainable future for eastern Ontario, across Canada and around the world.
Lunch. 2PM: 1000 islands cruise on the St-Laurewce river. En route to Niagara Falls. Arrival in Niagara for dinner at 8PM.
Day 11: Niagara Falls
AM : visit of Niagara Falls and mini-cruise at the foot of the falls on the Maid of the Mist. Lunch in Niagara-on-the-lake and visit of this charming village. Visit of an Ontario winemaker with wine tasting. 7:30PM: Farewell dinner overlooking the falls.
Day 12: Niagara Falls / Toronto / Toronto airport
Route to Toronto. Visit of Toronto: Toronto is a town in full expansion and bustling with activities. Since 1977, the first city of Canada and an important business center. Toronto is the cultural Center of English speaking Canada with its museums unmatched in the rest of the country, the vitality of its theatres, symphonic orchestras, national ballet, opera etc. The recent influx of immigrants gives the city a most vitalizing cultural mix. The renovation of the old quarters mix with the skyscrapers makes for a charming decor. 1:30PM: Lunch at the top of CN tower. Transfer to the airport according with the flight schedule.
