Day 1, Tuesday,
Rendezvous travelers to airport. Group arrival at São Paulo International Airport. Transfer to hotel. City tour of São Paulo, the main economic, industrial, financial and commercial centre in South America. Welcome dinner. Overnight Sao Paulo
Day 2, Wednesday,
Breakfast. Depart to Itatinga, center of pine and eucalyptus forests. Visit the Forestry Experiment Station which covers 3600 acres of commercial forest and 1600 acres of research forest. Lunch. Workshop with station officials. Learn about the environmental education program and cooperation with international institutions. Transfer via coach to Botucatu, located in rolling forested hills of interior São Paulo state. Check in at four star hotel. Overnight Botucatu
Day 3, Thursday,
Breakfast. Tour of the Eucatex, owner of eucalyptus and pine forests, and sawmills. Talk with management about cloning, cooperation with the University, and their stewardship program. Eucatex by-products are utilized for fuel and fertilizer for vineyards. Lunch. Continue to Mogi das Cruzes, East of Sâo Paulo in the coastal mountains. Check-in hotel. Overnight Mogi das Cruzes
Day 4, Friday,
Breakfast. Visit Neblinas Park, a 11,000 acre reserve used for environmental studies and endangered species preservation. Meet with University of Sao Paulo experts working in the Mata Atlantica. This area contains the largest wood botanical diversity in the world. Lunch. See the Suzano paper plant which utilizes eucalyptus pulp. Visit the 4,800 acres designated as Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar. Return to hotel. Overnight Mogi das Cruzes
Day 5, Saturday,
Breakfast. Departure to Campos do Jordão. This city is in the Mantiqueira Hills, 6500 feet above sea level. Tour mill producing pine for construction and box manufacturing. Interview owner. Lunch. Visit a small family sawmill and interview owner. Return to hotel. Overnight Campos do Jordão
