Chilean Energy Group Learns About Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

Twelve energy experts have been capturing vast amounts of new and beneficial information from experts, leaders, administrators and entrepreneurs in Oregon and Washington states. Organized and operated by Anglatin Ltd., this ten day tour has emphasized not only new technology, but policy and entrepreneurship.

The 150 foot blades of giant wind machines were wooping above our heads as we learned about Energy Northwest’s unique program of buying power from several sources and reselling to four member energy distributors. Meetings with energy policy makers, and promoters of energy conservation stimulated the exchange of important and innovative new ideas. Visits to traditional energy sources included a very large coal fired electrical plant, a nuclear power facility, and one of the many giant dams on the Columbia River.

Energy conservation highlights included a visit to an older home retrofitted with improved windows, lighting, Energy Star appliances, solar thermal sysem, and photovoltaic panels. The group saw the same energy conservation methods on new homes as well as commercial and industrial buildings.

Finishing in Seattle, the Chilean engineers learned about city, port and rivate industry programs for energy conservation, met entrepreneurs producing new energy technology, and saw the wide range of energy saving appliances available to homewoners. The group will return to Chile October 18, suitcases laden with publications, CDs and examples of modern energy technology.
