Group breakfast. Meeting with directors of the Tillamook Creamery Association, makers of world famous cheese and other dairy products. Discuss the dairy industry, and its future. Guided tour of the creamery. Group lunch at creamery. Visit family dairy and interview owner about health management, milk quality control, manure disposal, forage management, pasture management, and government policy towards the diary industry. Visit farm supply store specializing in products and services for dairy farmers. Transfer to Portland, the friendly city. Hotel check-in. Group dinner. Overnight Portland
Sunday, 02 October
Group breakfast. Depart to Hood River passing through the Columbia Gorge National National Scenic Area. Stops at Bonneville dam to see the migrating salmon, and at Multnomah falls, the tallest in Oregon. In Hood river, see the world champion sail boarding competition and a unique resort village. Visit a local apple and pear orchard. Group lunch on the Columbia River. Continue through the Hood River valley orchards, and over Mount Hood with photo stops en route. Mount Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon with forested flanks and five ski resorts. Stop at a winery for a vineyard walk and wine tasting. Return to Portland for a free evening. Group breakfast. Visit large dairy and interview owner about health management, milk quality control, manure disposal, forage management, pasture management, and government diary industry policy. Visit fruit farm (berries, hops, cherries, etc.) and talk with owner about crop management, production, prices and markets. Group lunch. Visit medium size dairy and interview owner about labor management, butterfat production, government control and regulations, and profitability. Visit dairy farm supply retailer and interview manager about new products and services. Return to Portland and hotel. Free evening. Overnight Portland
Tuesday, 04 October
Group breakfast. Transfer to international airport and fly to Chicago's O'Hare field. Transfer directly to Madison, Wisconsin. Register at the World Dairy Expo. Visit the international lounge and meet for informal conversation with specialists, buyers and sellers of dairy products and services. Visit the exhibition floor and see the more than 600 exhibits. Group transfer to hotel and check-in. Overnight Madison
